what is venture?

Venture is a leadership program designed to equip young women with the tools to grow intellectually and morally. Through professional seminars, personal mentoring, and the Venture Out Initiatives, Venture helps young women understand what it means to be a woman and how to venture out of their comfort zones to live for others.

Integral Mentorship:

Each month, seminar speakers share their professional and life experience. Venture mentors help each girl to reflect on the content presented and to formulate goals to meet the unique challenges and opportunities she encounters.

Reflective Service:

Venture strives to foster a spirit of service towards family, community, and the world as a way of life. Participants are encouraged to put their leadership capacities into practice in concrete ways in their daily life. Through the Venture Out Initiatives, participants develop the habit of working together with others to serve the wider community.

Christian Identity:

Venture’s comprehensive approach relies on the complementary lights of Christian faith and reason which help young people to discover truth about the human person and society. The spiritual aspects of the program are entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.

What is the structure of Venture?

The program is composed of integrated seminars that build on one another and are tailored to the participant’s age. Venture meets on the third Saturday of each month, September through May, from 1:00 to 4:15 p.m. Each session includes an interactive presentation, practical exercises, and/or breakout sessions.

How does mentoring work?

Mentors guide the students in applying the principles they learn in the program through realistic and practical goals. Each student meets regularly with her mentor. Students can also contact mentors outside the program sessions if needed. Mentors will coach the students through their Venture Out Initiative as well.

Can a student sign up even if they cannot come to every session?

Ideally, a student would attend every session because the program is designed with sessions which build one upon the other. It is for the benefit of the student to attend every session; however, we understand if a session needs to be missed.

Where is the program held?

The program is held at Petawa Cultural Center, a center of Opus Dei, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For over 60 years, Petawa has offered women of all ages a complete plan of integrated formation to improve their intellectual, moral, spiritual, cultural and professional formation. This formation is offered through leadership programs, Roman Catholic spiritual retreats, seminars on family life and marriage, Catholic theology classes and other religious & professional activities.
